☀️ Family Week Day 4: Agenda, Updates, and Reminders
Happy Wednesday! We have so many exciting events today — make the most of Day 4 at Family Week by checking out some of these important notes and reminders:
NEW DATE: Family Night! Our totally tubular 90s-themed party has been rescheduled for tomorrow, Thursday (August 1) due to forecasted rain. All other details remain the same! Catch ya at Motta Field at 5:30PM tomorrow for a night to remember!
NEW EVENT: Drag Story Time! After the amazing turnout at Monday’s Drag Story Time, we’re thrilled to offer an additional story time TODAY for all those who were turned away due to capacity constraints earlier this week. Join us at the Crown & Anchor at 1PM because reading is what? FUNDAMENTAL!
Note: All are welcome to attend this event, but we want to ensure that the families who were unable to attend on Monday due to capacity constraints get seats. As such, we kindly encourage those in attendance on Monday to refrain or wait until shortly after 1PM to enter!
Don’t miss the Queer Leaders Panel at Crown & Anchor today 3PM - 4PM. Hear from a powerhouse lineup of movement leaders about the joys and challenges of parenting right now and what our organizations are doing to protect LGBTQ+ families. We anticipate this to be a very popular event so we suggest arriving early to ensure you get a seat. See you there!
Massachusetts Family Week-ers: We’re one step closer to the MPA becoming law!
As we all celebrate the magic of Family Week right here in Massachusetts, we have important news: The Senate has unanimously voted to pass the Massachusetts Parentage Act following the House’s unanimous vote last month! This historic legislation will modernize Massachusetts’ outdated parentage laws to better protect families, especially LGBTQ+ families and children born through surrogacy and assisted reproduction. For decades, we’ve welcomed LGBTQ+ families from near and far to this state for this beloved event. With the MPA enacted into law, the families who live here all year-round will have access to essential protections — regardless of the circumstances of their birth or the marital status, gender identity, or sexual orientation of their parents.
This is an important step in our statewide efforts to get the MPA enacted into law — but we’re not done yet. The session ends TODAY, and Massachusetts legislators still need to enact the bill. Take five minutes right now to thank your legislators for their support and urge them to fully enact the bill and send it to the Governor’s desk ASAP!
